Our annual snowcave carbaret is back in business. Last two years' were cancelled due to the shortage of snow at Seymour.
As usual, the party started in late morning where the first task was to pile up the main dome and a few main trenches.
Slowly while small groups were arriving and preparing their own caves, crew were digging and hauling the snow out. The system
was assisted by 3 sleds and a few youngsters. The big cave was evolving bigger and bigger. While it was big enough to allow
3 crew members to work inside. One of the first time crew made a mistake carving too deep into the roof, without checking the
thickness. Bang, the dome collapsed and buried 3 of them. I was right there.
First evolved from the snow was Hans. He was fine, and as he turned around to locate the other 2, we heard a loud "Waaaaah".
Here came like a He-man coming out of the snow. The whole scene was scary for a moment, but it was so funny.
We didn't let this setback to stop our party. We salvage as much room as possible, and recruit more people to start digging again.
We hauled and hauled and continued to haul snow out of the big dome. By 7:30pm, a new party cave was finished. Still big enough
to fit 30+ people. More people arrived, and I think we have reached 40+ people.
Usually I would stay overnight, but this year I had to leave to Bellingham, and I had my first marathon the following day.
