My first time to Smith Rock was amazing. Ian and I drove past Mt Hood, snowy conditions along the way, and at one point, we have to put on chains.
Strangely, not even 15 mins of driving on chains, we had to take them off because it was dry and sunny !
Arriving at Smith Rock, seeing the blue sky, we headed to tour the rocks. We picked to climb the "peanut", a beginner rock for me. Ian led most of
the climbs, and top roped me.
In the afternoon, we switched to the rock face that have a 5.8, 5.9 and a 5.10 on the same face. And you know what, three women of different ages
were climbing the face. First the old lady, aged 60, led her first to go up the 5.8. Then another lady, late 50's top roped by her friend went up
in the middle. And at last the very fit younger lady went up the 5.10.
Putting on chains
10 mins later, roads are dry
Somewhere on the Peanut rock.
Ian leading a 5.7 crack, I think
Don't you love seeing these pictures ?
How did she do it ?
The 3 ladies going up on the same face.
Amazing! Trying to get the picture, so all 3 line up.
End of the day, tomato basil soup ... unbeatable!
Digital price tag, ....in a small town grocery shop.
At night, we camped at a nearby state park, a little camp fire was perfect to wind down the evening.
Enjoying the campfire on the crash pad!
Started the 2nd on the 5.8 climb
It was quite challenging for me, I have to admit.
And then we saw the guy, climbing this crack.
He was so fast ...
He did it under 15 min.
On the way back, .. Mr. Hood appeared to be very nice and clear.
