So, finally we were ready to drive off Fez going south to our adventure. The first hiccup we had was picking up our rental car.
We reserved to be picked up at the airport, assuming there would be an office there. However, the car was actually delivered to us at the airport
from downtown, where we just came from.
Seeing the rental car condition made us feel sick. There was a big dent on the rear left, obviously caused by a major hit. The inside condition wasn't nice neither.
10 minutes into our drive, there was a warning coming from our the panel computer, ... beep beep beep ...., every 10 seconds, this
warning showed up. It was in French telling us something wrong with the brakes. Did I say the brakes ? It took me another 10 minutes to
navigate through the menu to change the language to English. Wow, the warning message said, "Brake pad worn!" Wasn't it scary ?
We were so frustrated and disappointed at the car rental, but what could we do, ... in the middle of nowhere ? We kept on driving
passing through dry deserts and high plateau. It was so quiet, as if all local people had left. We didnt stop many times because
there were nothing else to see, no restaurants to stop for breaks.
Our adventure continued into a big town, Errachidia. We thought there would be restaurants open, but guess what ? None !!! But we
managed to find a nice hotel. We didnt have our dinner unitl about 10pm, when all local people finished their first meal becauseof Ramadan.
After a night of rest, we continue to drive to Merzuga, where we would be taking our camel tour.
It was a flat plateau .. so flat that you wouldn't believe you are in Morocco.
We were actually at very high altitude. The air pressure was lower than in the can.
Windy .... so windy ...
Our not so great peugeot.
;) Who's the MAN ?
Are you scared ??? We survived.
It's loooooong road ....
This sheperd was the only local we met for about the 2 hours since leaving Fez.
Talking about driving in Morocco .... =P
Roads are actually not bad ..
Just that you have to watch out for drivers ...and passengers.
Very strange seeing the flat roads
Typical overloading .. ....
Do you know that it is ? Do you want to know ?
I guess it's just too hot inside,....perhaps sitting with about 40 people was not a safe idea.
We beleived these are cell phone towers. Morocco is one of the few countries that have coverage over the entire territory.
Are we lost ?
Approaching Errichidia, see a few oasis and streams running through the desert valley
This was where we were, just in case you ask !
Accident, ...this lorry truck just flip speeding into a turn. Overloading, I guess.
We got a good deal at this hotel in Errichidia.
Clean big beds ....
... with nice decor in the restaurant ...
More desert valleys as we moved onto Merzuga ...
For over 10 km, there was nothing but this abandoned structure ... you wonder why they built it in the first place.
Leaving the oasis valley, going into the rock desert part of the country.
We got our turbans at this shop .... they told us these turbans were made in Morocco, .. later we found out they were made in China. How ? There was a label on the turbans saying so =)
