Last minute trips always surprise us, and this is one of them, but in a good way. We started driving at 4:30am to avoid border lineup.
By 5:00am, it was already so bright, as if we were driving for a whole day. We crossed the border with no trouble at all, from there it was
a smooth drive to the Edmonds ferry crossing.
While waiting for the ferry, we stopped by a coffee shop, and I ordered a "Danish" like cream cheese danish, and a very tasty coffee.
We arrived at the National Park Wilderness Info Center, just to find out that the trail condition was not favourable to us. But the park
ranger recommend us to try the "Deer Park" campground.
Wow, it was like a gold mine at Deer Park. It is a drive-in campground, not busy, up very high in the mountain, equipped with "very clean"
pitt toilets. Although it was a bit cloudy when we arrived, we managed to do a bit hiking. Sky cleared up for us at dusk. We had an wonderful
time up at the lookout to watch the Sunset.

From Hans' camera
Brian looks like a giant amongst a forest of silver twisted trees. he's just crouching on a fallen log, but its a surreal setting. There was a fire near the Deer Park campground back in the 80's. now there is a eriee grove of dead trees waiting for the forest to regenerate itself. (Hans' Photo)
Camping at Deer Park drive-in backcountry campground wasn't the plan, but worked out for the best anyways. Windy ridge was apparently fully booked, but nobody told the rangers that it was still burried under a snow drift (Hans' Photo).
Walking up to Blue mountain to see the sunset, had to invigorate soar and tired muscles with some jumping exercises. couldn't pass up the silhouette opportunity (Hans' Photo).
One of these days have to get a mini tripod for such occasions! mind you, can wait until I get a camera with adequate long exposure times. chief complaint with current model.(Hans' Photo)
Sample of the lichen encrusted rocks from Hurricane ridge. this one caught my eye with the quartz vein running through the middle. (Hans' Photo)
