I was up at about 5:30am, and catched the 6:00am ferry from Central to Silvermine Bay, Lantau Island. I was one of the few passengers of this
insanely early ferry on a weekeday. But what else can I say other than "Nice try, son !".
I was going to hike the Section 2 and 3 of the Lantau Trail, which consists of 10 sections (70km). The weather started off "Cloudy" with a few
sunny breaks. Section 2 brought me up to Sunset Peak, 3rd highest Peak in Hong Kong. On top of Sunset Peak, there were stone houses built by the
government for some missionaries in 1930s. However, by the time I reached Sunset Peak, it was very foggy.
Coming down from Sunset Peak, it turned into a sunny day, somewhat too sunny. Continued on to Section 3, it is a 20% slope (elevation gain of 600m in 3km).
This is purely a stamina test of hiking flights of thousands of stairs. The somewhat too sunny weather became a toaster for me. I sunburned my face and arms.
But reaching the top of Lantau Peak worthed the view of Shek Pik Reservoir (south view) and the Giant Buddha (west view).
I joined my mom and sister after coming down from Lantau Peak to go to Shek O, an old fishing village years ago. There were still 4000 people living in
houses sustaining on the shores. Of course we didn't leave Shek O without having a delicious seafood meal.
5:45am at the Central ferry terminal.
Xin Xian is a very old ferry ... and slow as well.

Lantau Trail is a well-maintained trail indeed.

Up there is Sunset Peak
Steep slope up the last section to Sunset Peak.
Stone houses on top of Sunset Peak. There are a total of 13 standing. Too bad when I got here, it was very foggy, else I should see all of them from the very top.
This was one of the stone houses.
Side trail leading to the 2nd Sunset Peak.
Big boulder on Sunset Peak.
Coming down was a different story, stone steps.
My first glimpse of the uphill of Section 3.
Taking a break on Section 3, looking east.
Behind me is the town of Tung Chung (very near to the Hong Kong International Airport)
No kidding, the last stretch of going uphill of Section 3 to Lantau Peak.
Yeah .... I was finally here, 934m.
Can you see the Giant Buddha from here ?
Ah ... this was better, wasn't it ?
Totem Parks at the end of Section 3.
Gate of Lantau Trail section 3, the most common route to Lantau Peak to watch sunrise.
Giant Buddha, here I came ...
This thing was usually full of joss sticks (incense).

Arrived at Tai O Village.
My sister, my mom and I took a boat cruise around the fishing village.
It is quite a small boat.

There was a big fire 2 years ago burning down about 100+ houses.
